Man Charged With Attempted Sexual Assault Of 83-Year-Old
Margarito Hernandez-Valladares, 23, allegedly tried to sexually assault the woman while she was walking to church, officials said.

ENGLEWOOD, NJ — A 23-year-old Englewood Man is accused of trying to sexually assault an 83-year-old woman while she was walking to church this summer, authorities said.
The Englewood Police Department received a report that a man tried to sexually assault the woman on July 28, said Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.
The woman was followed through the parking lot of St. Cecilia's Church when a Hispanic man grabbed her and tackled her to the ground in a doorway of the Korean Community Church, said Englewood Police Capt. Timothy Torell. The man eventually stopped attacking and calmly walked away when the victim waved down a passing vehicle, he said.

The woman's injuries were minor.
The prosecutor's office Special Victims Unit and the Englewood Police Department launched a joint investigation, Grewal said.

Hernandez-Valladares was arrested Thursday. He was charged with second-degree attempted sexual assault, criminal restraint and criminal sexual contract, Grewal said.
Herandez-Valladares was arraigned in Bergen County Central Judicial Prosecutor Friday afternoon, the prosecutor said.
