Westwood Student Named National Merit Semifinalist
Student from Pascack Valley High School is one of the 16,000 semifinalists vying for a National Merit Scholarship.

A Pascack Valley High School student has been named a semifinalist for a National Merit Scholarship.
Irene Y. Ju is among the 16,000 high school students nationwide who has earned semifinalist status. They include the highest scoring Preliminary SAT takers in each state. They qualified for the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT.
About 15,000 of the semifinalists are expected to advance to the finalist level to earn one of 2,500 National Merit Scholarships for $2,500 each.

To become a finalist, a semifinalist must submit an application, write an essay, and have an outstanding academic record, among other requirements.
About 1,000 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarships will also be awarded.

National Merit Scholarship recipients will be announced between April and July in 2016.
