Paterson convict held on $500,000 bail.

A 24-year-old Paterson man jailed for drug and weapons offenses has been charged with manslaughter , authorities said Tuesday.
Floyd Nichols was being held on $500,000 bail. Authorities said Joshua Jones, 23, died days after he suffered “severe trauma” in an Aug. 14 assault at the Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility in Clinton Township.
Authorities did not immediately release what sparked the killing. Jones was serving time for weapons possession, criminal restraint and drug offenses, state records show. He would have been eligible for parole in January 2013.
“Every person is entitled to protection under the law, including those incarcerated in our prisons. This victim is no different just because he a prison inmate,” Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III said in a statement.
