Firehouse To Be Dedicated In Englewood Councilman's Memory

'The dean of the council,' Jack Drakeford, died in 2012 after a long illness.

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. — The city firehouse will be dedicated this month in memory of former Councilman Jack Drakeford.

Drakeford died Aug. 2, 2012 after a long illness. He was 75. He was known as the “dean of the City Council.” He was born and raised in Englewood.

Drakeford served the city in a variety of positions, including as a firefighter, city clerk, city manager, acting public works director, and public safety director. Drakeford served on the council as President in three decades, 1976, 1999, 2002 and 2004.

The ceremony will take place May 14 at 11 a.m. The firehouse is located at 81 S. Van Brunt St. Attendees should RSVP by calling 201-510-8205 or by emailing Catherine Melendez at cmelendez@cityofenglewood.org.
