THE GYM of Englewood Holds 6-hour Rowathon to Benefit BergenPAC

THE GYM of Englewood raises funds for BergenPAC.

The recent Englewood Night Market by Exposure, boasted food, drinks, music, dancing, shopping, and if you stopped by THE GYM’s booth - rowing! In an effort to raise money for the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC), THE GYM of Englewood pledged to donate $2 for every minute rowed at their booth’s two rowing machines. The goal to have participants rowing for 6 hours straight was reached. THE GYM proudly donated $720 by the time the night came to a close at 11p.m.

The Englewood Night Market, a block party held to promote local businesses and bring out residents for an enjoyable evening, was a free event. Patrons sampled food from over 20 local restaurants, browsed the shops, and enjoyed live entertainment. bergenPAC provided the night’s entertainment with live musical performances and all the while, THE GYM’s rowers were hard at work.

THE GYM’s booth featured games, prizes, massages, and special offers for new members, like the chance to win a personal training package or a group workout. However, their focus for the evening was to row long enough to raise money for the bergenPAC. bergenPAC, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, hosts over 180 performances and reaches 150,000 patrons annually. Its Performing Arts School believes that children and teens from all walks of life, deserve accessibility to the arts and reaches 30,000 students annually. As a community organization that believes strongly in its youth, scholarships are available to qualified candidates for their dance, music, and theater programs.

“We are so thankful to THE GYM for its extraordinary efforts on behalf of the bergenPAC,” said Joe Allegro, Director of Development. “The more support we have from our local community, the more we can provide exposure to the arts for the community-at-large.”

While THE GYM anticipated doing a fair amount of the rowing themselves, it turns out that adults and children alike eagerly stepped in. The enthusiasm of the participants not only ended up being a big help in THE GYM’s fundraising efforts, but also provided a fun athletic activity for those who stopped by. “This kind of local partnering is really exciting for us, not only for the good will it creates between the community and ourselves, but also, with mutual cooperation, we can continue our mission of reaching out to everyone around us,” Allegro said. THE GYM and bergenPAC plan to continue their partnering relationship in future community endeavors.
