THE GYM Raises $7,650 For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Continuing its tradition of supporting the cause, THE GYM helped raise $7,650 during Breast Cancer Awareness month.

This is The GYM’s third year raising funds during the month of October for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation (TNBCF.) The lifestyle and fitness center held events throughout the month at both its Englewood and Montvale locations to benefit the local charity.

TNFCF funds breakthrough research to support the discovery of new treatments and services for patients with triple negative breast cancer. Triple negative tumors generally do not respond to receptor-targeted treatment, can be particularly aggressive, and are more likely to recur than other subtypes of breast cancer.

THE GYM has raised over $18,000 for TNBCF over the past three years.

“We are grateful that THE GYM and its members joined in the fight against breast cancer,” said Hayley Dinerman, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. “Our partnerships enable us to fund groundbreaking research and to provide essential services to thousands of women who are battling triple negative disease.”

On October 15, THE GYM of Englewood held a Triple Threat Dance Class, featuring Dance instructors Hila Riva, Chris SantaMaria and Cat Veca for a 60 minute class that had over 60 attendees. On October 9, 10 and 11, they held a Spin-A-Thon, which let members and guests spin for the cause. The Englewood trainers took part in a Push-Up Contest on October 14, battling it out and raising funds. The winners were Nurit Chasman with 70 push-ups and Michael Feeks with 160 push-ups. On Halloween, THE GYM of Montvale offered Face Painting and Pink Hair Extensions from Moxie Montvale.

Both locations sold Support Our Girls t-shirts throughout October.

“We have been giving back to the local community since we opened in 2002,” said Montvale Group Fitness Director, Lisa Bruchalski. “We are honored to help raise funds to combat breast cancer.”

“It’s a wonderful thing to be able to offer any kind of help in the fight against breast cancer,” Nurit Chasman, Group Fitness Director in Englewood, said. “We are happy to have had such great participation and raise funds for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.”

Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation (TNBCF) was founded in 2006 in honor of Nancy Block-Zenna, who was diagnosed at the young age of 35 with triple negative breast cancer before succumbing to the disease in 2007. TNBCF strives to be a credible source for triple negative breast cancer information, a catalyst for science and patient advocacy groups, and a caring community with meaningful services for triple negative patients and their families.
