If It Isn't in Writing, It Didn't Happen!

The Community Chest presents an ethics workshop for nonprofit organizations on best practices in professional documentation on March 1.

The Community Chest's Professional Development Workshop Series presents the ethics workshop, If It Isn't in Writing, It Didn't Happen: Documentation to Protect Your Client, Yourself, and Your Organization, on Friday, March 1, 2019. The Community Chest, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Englewood, New Jersey serving eastern Bergen County, will present the workshop at Vantage Health System located at 2 Park Avenue in Dumont, New Jersey from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the workshop will take place on March 4. The workshop is free and open to the public.

Presenter Christine Heer, Esq., LCSW, DVS will lead the workshop and discuss what documentation is a vital part of the professional’s responsibility. Writing progress notes, reports and letters requires the human service professional to consider may factors, including the purpose of the communication, the recipient of the communication, and the writer's goals.

This workshop focuses on best practices in professional documentation for social workers and other professionals, with topics including, but not limited to the following: how to memorialize assessment, prognosis and an action plan in documentation; how to convey appropriately these issues in communication to others; when to draft reports narrowly versus broadly; how to advocate and persuade on a client’s behalf; how to convey objectivity; and ethical and legal issues in documentation.
