Lady Writes the Blues
The life and music of Rose Marie McCoy and the segregated record business

All are invited to attend a presentation on the life and music of Rose Marie McCoy and the segregated record business she first entered in the early 1950s. The discussion will be led by the songwriter’s biographer, Arlene Corsano. It will be held on Friday, January 30th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lydecker Homestead in Englewood located at 228 Grand Avenue. The program is hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Palisades.
Rose Marie McCoy was a successful female songwriter who contributed to the crossover from segregated rhythm & blues to international rock ‘n’ roll. She is a genuine pioneer, a black female in the white male-dominated industry of the 1950s, who paved the way for the female pop specialists who followed, and though her name is not well-known, her accomplishments are legendary among music industry people.
Refreshments will be served.
