Newark resident was shot in his arm and is expected to survive, police said.

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. — Police are looking for information regarding the shooting of a man on Orange Street late Thursday night.

Officers responded to the fire department at 11:45 p.m. and found a Newark man with a serious gunshot wound to one of his upper arms, said Detective Capt. Timothy Torell.

The man was rushed to a local hospital where he remains, the captain said. He is expected to survive.

The man was shot on Orange Street but a friend drove him to the fire department, thinking it was the police department, Torell said.

The Bergen County Sheriff's Department Crime Scene Unit and Englewood police detectives responded to Orange Street and collected ballistic evidence early Friday morning and after daybreak, Torell said. Some of the evidence was taken from the side of an Orange Street residence on the upper floor of the home's facade.

Authorities are trying to determine a motive for the shooting, which police believe was not random, Torell said, and if it connected to other recent shootings in the city.

"We also believe that there are people out there who possess information that could be very helpful to our investigations," Torell said. "Some of these investigations have been hampered by victims and witnesses unwilling to provide us with details. Our detectives are working around the clock but we need help from the community."

Anyone with information should call the Crimestoppers hotline at 844-466-6789 or Englewood police detectives at 201-568-4875.
