Pain Management Specialist Jersey Rehab Offers Innovative Platelet Rich Plasma Injections

Blood Platelets and White Blood Cells Work Together to Promote Healing in a Natural Way

Belleville, NJ – Jersey Rehab Pain Management, a community-based practice focused on the relief and management of acute and chronic pain, is pleased to announce that it is now offering patients the option of platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections for regenerative treatment for soft tissue, muscle, ligament or tendon injury in its offices in Belleville, Hackensack, Rumson, West Orange and the Bronx.

The doctors who run the practice, all specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of pain, add new techniques and technologies when they see proven value. Patients have reported considerable, if not total, pain relief following PRP Injections, which work by taking blood components from their own bodies to treat damaged or injured tissue. The blood platelets and white blood cells work together to promote healing in a more natural way.

The relatively new treatment is an increasingly popular option for giving a biological boost to the healing process, and has received significant attention from the media. It has been used by several NFL players, including Victor Cruz, of the New York Giants and Heinz Ward, of the Pittsburgh Steelers; as well as other elite athletes, including Tiger Woods and Maria Sharapova.

Here’s how it works:

  • PRP is produced from your own blood. It is a concentration of a certain type of cell known as platelets, which circulate through the blood and are critical for blood clotting. Platelets and the liquid plasma portion of the blood contain many factors that are essential for the cell recruitment, multiplication and specialization that are required for healing.
  • The blood sample is placed into a centrifuge, which is a tool that separates blood into its many components. After collecting platelet rich plasma, the doctors deliver it to the injured area of bone or soft tissue, such as a tendon or ligament by injection. The growth factors released by platelets help stimulate healing and tissue growth, enabling the treatment of tissue damage without surgery.
  • The doctors often use ultrasound guidance to assist them in the precise placement of the injection. After receiving PRP, patients need to avoid exercise for a short period of time before beginning a rehabilitation exercise program.

PRP treatment is being used to treat a variety of conditions, and many baby boomers are finding it helpful for joint pain. Some studies have shown positive results for the treatment of rotator cuff tears and medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries in the knee, and in a small study involving knee osteoarthritis, PRP treatment was shown to be more effective than hyaluronic acid treatment.
