Woman Arrested In Bergen County Hit-And-Run That Hospitalized Child, Adult (Update)

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Fair Lawn woman has been arrested for striking an adult and child with her car on Tuesday and leaving the scene, officials said.

Maritza Salazar-Perez, 67, was charged Tuesday with third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said that just after 6:30 a.m., Fair Lawn police responded to the intersection of Broadway and Fair Lawn Parkway. Investigators determined that a 47-year-old woman and 5-year-old child had been hit by a driver who fled the scene.

Both victims were taken to the hospital. The woman was treated for minor injuries and the child had serious injuries, prosecutors said.

Detectives were able to determine that a 2011 Honda Pilot operated by Salazar-Perez left the scene without notifying police of her involvement in the crash.

Besides the charge of leaving the scene, she was charged with third-degree endangering an injured victim and with motor vehicle offenses.

She was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court.
