Verismo Opera Casting Supernumeraries
Calling Actors! Verismo Opera is casting supernumerary roles for La Gioconda that will be performed at bergenPAC

The New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera, the house opera company of the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC), is holding open casting calls for supernumerary roles. Supernumeraries will appear in the company’s spring production of Amilcare Ponchielli’s La Gioconda on Sunday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m. in Englewood, New Jersey. Also known as supers, supernumeraries are non-singing, non-speaking parts similar to extras in television and movies.
Males, age 16 and older, are especially needed and invited to sign up now for supernumerary roles. Several supernumerary roles are available as guards, seamen, and gentlemen of the Venetian Court in Verismo Opera’s debut of this grand production. No experience is necessary! All supernumerary positions are undertaken as volunteer roles. Supernumeraries will perform in period costume in the fully staged production.
The supernumeraries and the complete cast will perform under the direction of General Manager and Stage Director Evelyn La Quaif. A live orchestra will accompany the opera under the baton of the company’s new Principal Conductor and Music Director, Cuban born Lucy Arner. The Verismo Opera Chorus will perform in Italian under the direction of Chorus Director and Associate Conductor Mara Waldman. La Gioconda will be presented with original sets created by the great stage designer, Sormani, whose artistry graces every major opera house in the world. For information about these supernumerary opportunities, call 201-224-2809.
