Youngsters Embrace The Community Chest's Motto 'Neighbors Helping Neighbors' at Tenafly Community Night

The Community Chest and the Tenafly High School Key Club partnered again this year to celebrate the fifth annual Tenafly Community Night with businesses and other service organizations in the borough of Tenafly. Local residents came together as a community on Tenafly's Riveredge Road and were introduced to the borough's businesses and resources. The Tenafly Police and Tenafly Recreation Departments sponsored the event.

Founded in 1932, The Community Chest, a nonprofit, 501c(3) tax-exempt organization serving eastern Bergen County, raises and awards funds to support area nonprofit organizations addressing a range of issues, including health and mental health, hunger, arts programming, the environment, and volunteerism for approximately 50,000 people. The Tenafly High School Key Club's members embraced The Community Chest's motto, "Neighbors Helping Neighbors", and volunteered at its table.

"The Community Chest was delighted to participate for a second time in the Tenafly Community Night and partner with the Tenafly High School's Key Club. This partnership aligns with The Chest's goal of providing opportunities for young people to participate in philanthropic activities," said Shelly Wimpfheimer, Executive Director.

These up-and-coming philanthropists explained to younger children The Chest's mission of caring about others in the community and asked them to sign the "Help Your Neighbors" pledge. The Chest sponsored an art contest featuring the motto and a Count the Candy Corn contest. The Key Club's volunteers announced the contests, reviewed the treats in the Count the Candy Corn contest and invited local youngsters to submit their drawings to the art contest.

Grace Bosco, an 11-year-old student at Tenafly Middle School, won first place in The Community Chest's Count the Candy Corn contest and a small prize. This young philanthropist wants to be an architect and lists social studies as her favorite subject in school. She likes elephants and has two dogs.

For nearly 85 years, The Community Chest, a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, has supported local not-for-profit agencies. The Chest leads initiatives and supports nonprofits that make our communities stronger and benefit people in need in eastern Bergen County. Each year, The Chest raises funds and allocates them to agencies demonstrating the capacity to provide services to local citizens. The organization also provides coordinating and planning services in its communities, serving as a bridge between agencies and organizations and investing in the stability and quality of the service network.
