Behind the recent controversy over a bright yellow billboard on Broadway in Fair Lawn with a headline many found offensive, there’s an important message, according to the Broadway Improvement Corporation (BIC). The concentration of health and wellness related businesses and service providers located on Broadway in Fair Lawn has made the district a top destination for consumers from Fair Lawn and beyond.
The medical group that paid for the billboard to advertise their practice is not located in Fair Lawn, but chose that specific location on Broadway as the best choice for getting their message out to potential new patients. Not surprising, noted BIC President Bob Beshlian. “With the large surrounding population, easy accessibility and prime commercial real estate properties offering good visibility to people driving through or visiting the District, Broadway in Fair Lawn is attracting an unprecedented amount of healthcare related businesses.”
In 2011, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson announced a partnership with Heart and Vascular Associates of North Jersey to establish the St. Joseph’s Cardiovascular Center at Fair Lawn (22-18 Broadway). The Center’s skilled cardiologists offer cardiovascular patients high quality and convenient access to medical screening and evaluation, disease management and education, as well as diagnostic services including Nuclear Stress, Echo, EKG, and Vascular studies.

The Center is part of St. Joseph’s mission to improve the health of its community by offering full service community-based outpatient facilities which focus on the management of chronic diseases such as congestive heart failure, hypertension, post-acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, arrhythmia’s (heart rhythm irregularities) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD).
Broadway’s reputation as a center for healthcare related products and services is certainly not a new phenomenon. Rinko Orthopedics (25-09 Broadway) has been a fixture on Broadway for more than 52 years. Dr. Gary Gorodokin (24-07 Broadway), a gastroenterologist specializing in digestive diseases, has been serving patients in the District for many years as well. Garden State Orthopaedics, Garden State Surgical Center and Garden State Physical Therapy take up nearly a block from 28-04 to 28-12 Broadway. Add other doctors, medical treatment and therapy centers along with nearby businesses like B&L Medical Supply (23-21 Broadway), Ruzhin Medical Supply (26-17 Broadway), the CVS Pharmacy (29-00 Broadway) and Basic Home Healthcare (17-17 Broadway), and it’s easy to see why other Bergen County healthcare product and service providers would find the Broadway District a great place to prospect – “fishing where the fish are” as the old saying goes.

Fair Lawn residents and visitors from surrounding communities also appreciate the convenience and quality of the District’s dining options, along with other retail stores and services, making it easy to complete local errands combined with a trip to Broadway to see their local healthcare providers. The BIC’s efforts to keep Broadway safe, clean and welcoming add to the District’s appeal.
