Burglar Breaks Into Fair Lawn Home, Tried To Run Over Owner: Cops

When a Fair Lawn homeowner discovered a man on the second floor of his home, police say he tried to record him. Then he had to dodge a van.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — A Newark man is charged with burglary, robbery and aggravated assault after police say he broke into a residence in Fair Lawn, and then tried to drive into the homeowner, who was attempting to record the incident.

Police responded to the area of 5th Street near Hopper Avenue after a 49-year-old Fair Lawn man reported that he found an unknown man in a second floor room of his under-construction residence.

That man, later identified as Isaiah Townsend, 25, of Newark, left the home after his encounter with the homeowner. Police say he then got into a green work van parked nearby, and attempted to drive into the owner as he was trying to film the incident.

Townsend's vehicle was eventually stopped on Fair Lawn Avenue at Burbank Street, where he was arrested. He was taken to Bergen County Jail.

Police said "no proceeds" were removed from the residence.
