Democrats Kick Off Borough Council Campaign
Candidates include Mayor Lisa Swain, Kurt Peluso and Cristina Cutrone
The following press release is from the Fair Lawn Democratic Organization:
The Democratic candidates for Fair Lawn Borough Council held a campaign kick off rally last week in front of a standing room only crowd at the American Legion Hall. Fair Lawn Mayor Lisa Swain and newcomers Kurt Peluso and Cristina Cutrone were joined by over 100 family, friends and supporters who knocked door to door in their neighborhoods and made phone calls to voters following the rally.
“It is humbling that so many people came out in support of our team and share our vision for Fair Lawn,” said Swain. “I am extremely proud of what I have been able to accomplish during my first 4 years on the council. As a community we have made a great deal of progress but there is still work to be done. In these tough economic times we need to think outside the box and have a long term plan to keep Fair Lawn affordable as a place to live and raise your family. I am particularly proud that we are one of the only towns in Bergen County to have no tax increase this year.”

“Growing up in Fair Lawn I was afforded every opportunity and now I want to give back to the community that has given so much to me,” said Peluso.
“I am a product of Fair Lawn’s schools; my first jobs were working for the Radburn Association and All Sports. These experiences allowed me to grow into a position where I currently serve the communities of Southern Bergen County. I am raising my two children here and I want to make sure that all of our future generations are given the same opportunities I had in Fair Lawn,” continued Peluso. “My vision for our town starts with protecting and enhancing our many community programs while also supporting our seniors and protecting the services they depend on.”

“Raised in a closely knit family I value the sense of community that exists in Fair Lawn. This is a town where generation after generation stays to raise their families. That is the prime reason my husband and I live here. Fair Lawn needs strong leadership to help preserve that sense of community. To do this we must build on the success of the past by keeping services like our award winning library open and funded while also infusing new ideas and a fresh perspective on many of the other issues facing Fair Lawn today,” said Cutrone. “If given the honor of serving our town I am committed to working tirelessly on behalf of every single Fair Lawn resident.”
Swain was first elected to the council in 2007 and has served as mayor since January. She is the creator and liaison to the Green Team and served as a member of the Planning Board. She was a leading advocate to change the town’s insurance, which has saved $1.2 million dollars and this year as Mayor delivered no municipal tax increases. She is married to Ron Bienstock and has two children Molly and Nicky.
Peluso is one of four generations of family members currently living in Fair Lawn and is running for his first term on the council. He currently serves as a Director of the Meadowlands YMCA, an assistant Fair Lawn High School track coach, and a Planning Board member. He currently resides on Southern Drive with his wife Linda and their two children Austin and Dean.
Cutrone is a high school social studies teacher in Tenafly and member of the Planning Board. She is running for her first term on the council. She previously served as a legislative aide to Assemblywoman Valarie Huttle. Her husband Stephen Musnikow is a life-long Fair Lawn resident and they currently reside on Lowe Avenue.
