
Fair Lawn’s Radburn Players will present the original comedy Great Bellied Women at its 4th Annual Original Works Staged Reading at 8pm this Saturday, October 20, at the Radburn Association Grange Hall, 29-20 Fair Lawn Avenue in Fair Lawn. This evening of entertainment is open to the public at no charge, and also includes complementary beverages and snacks.
Written by Stacey Lane and directed by Michael Sheehan, Jr., this comedic period piece stars Starring Rose Sheehan, Liz Ariemma and Tracy Assante. In the play, widow Agnes Moulsworth, a respected Elizabethan midwife, and her high-spirited daughter Margery, return from a successful delivery to interview a prospective apprentice, the pious Mistress Jane Cobbe. As their strong personalities interact amid the peculiarities of the childbirth during that period, hilarious situations ensue while celebrating the bond of women rising above their oppression in this sacred exclusively female arena.
Lane’s plays have been performed from coast to coast in the U.S., as well as in Canada, England, and Australia. She is the recipient of the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation Residency Grant and many other honors.
