Fair Lawn High School Boys Hoops Coach Resigns

Ponchak cites "different vision" for program.

The Fair Lawn High School boys basketball coach has resigned, citing a “different vision” of the program objectives.

Jim Ponchak told Patch on Saturday that he spoke with Athletic Director Cory Robinson and the school principal Jim Marcella late Thursday.

“I enjoyed my two years at Fair Lawn very much but I have a different vision than the administration of what the program should be,” said Ponchak. “I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to work with great players and a great coaching staff, but it’s time for me to look elsewhere.”

“I definitely want to continue coaching but I have to see what’s out there,” he said, adding that he wishes the program the best of luck in the future.

The Cutters went 13-38 in Ponchak's two seasons at the helm. Calls to the school went unanswered Saturday.

Ponchak is a seventh grade teacher in the Ridgewood school system.
