Fair Lawn Police officers are growing beards to support of a Bergen County mother of three who is fighting for her life.
Kerrie Prettitore, 42, was diagnosed with colon cancer in February 2014 and had a tumor removed. Her husband is originally from Fair Lawn.
She began chemotherapy and is now fighting for her life after just a single treatment.

Prettitore, a Ridgewood resident, has a rare genetic disorder known as DPD Deficiency, which dramatically increases the risk factors associated with the type of chemotherapy she received.
Individuals with DPD Deficiency lack a specific enzyme that breaks down certain chemotherapy drugs. Patients with DPD Deficiency are at serious risk of brain damage or death.

Members of the Fair Lawn PBA Local 67 have donated more than $1,000 this month to help Prettitore and her family. The members who have donated have not shaved their beards all month.
