Chris Lovermi didn't know what to expect when he held his girls basketball camps for the first time this summer. But after completing the second of two sessions, the Fair Lawn High School coach was ecstatic with the results.
"This is great," said Lovermi about the camps at Fair Lawn High School which were open to girls entering grades 4-9. "This just creates excitement, creates interest for basketball here in Fair Lawn. It gives a lot of our younger kids a chance to come out and experience the game. We can give them some good attention and learning of fundamentals. This is what it's all about."
With the help of assistant coaches Cat Monte and Colleen Vogel, they hosted the first three-day camp in the last week of June, drawing 26 participants. This week's second week of the camp drew even better, with 32 young players participating.

"I'm surprised we had this well of a turnout for the second week," Lovermi said." I wasn't real sure (what attendance would be), but this is great. Thirty-two kids is a wonderful number."
During this week's camp session, termed by Lovermi as their "Elite Skills Boot Camp," geared towards developing more advanced basketball skills.
