Fair Lawn Marching Band Runs the Table at Marine Corps Invitational, Heads to Rockaway

The Fair Lawn Marching Band heads to Rockaway, N.J. Saturday for the Garden State Gold Marching Band competition

fresh off another first place victory.

Last Sunday, the band took first place and all caption awards in the U.S. Scholastic Band Association Central New Jersey Regional Competition, a Marine Corps Invitational. They registered the highest score of the event for their show "Bound," which they've been adding details to as the year progresses.

The nationally-ranked 97-student ensemble has placed first in three of its first four competitions this year. The only event the band didn't win, a Sept. 24 competition in Piscataway, it finished second to last year's USSBA Group IV National Champion, Nazareth High School in Pennsylvania.

“The season is now half over, and the students have done exceptionally well, taking the caption awards in every category for two consecutive weeks and three times for music and percussion in addition to their overall scoring," said assistant band director Jamie Szeinberg, who is a full-time music director at Memorial Middle School and the percussion caption head for The Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps.

On Saturday, the band travels to Morris Knolls High School's Caruso Field at 50 Knoll Drive in Rockaway, for the Garden State Gold competition.
