Fair Lawn Police Crack Down On Distracted Driving This April
Fair Lawn Police are cracking down on distracted driving during the month of April as part of the state's "UDrive. UText. UPay" campaign.
FAIR LAWN, NJ — Fair Lawn Police are cracking down on distracted driving during the month of April as part of the state's "UDrive. UText. UPay" enforcement campaign.
Fair Lawn Police "will target motorists who engage in dangerous distracted driving behaviors such as talking on hand-held cell phones and sending text messages while driving," a news release from the department said.
In New Jersey, driver inattention was a contributing factor in 49 percent of the state's crashes in 2019, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for five seconds, Fair Lawn police said.
"At 55 miles per hour, that’s like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed."
