In addition to on-site fundraising such as Luminaria sales, chair massages and more, many teams have already held events to raise funds – the top team thus far, Team Believe, held two bowling events; Patrice’s Memorial Family, headed by long-time Fair Lawn educator Tom Hochkeppel, benefited from Memorial School’s Hoops for Humanity event, and Team Coryl (Fair Lawn’s Trischka family), hosted “Purple Rain,” a Prince tribute concert. Local restaurants hosted dine-out for dollars nights, and painting, jewelry and other events were also held.
Teams for Fair Lawn’s first Relay come from clubs and sports teams at Fair Lawn High and other schools, local organizations, friends and families who wish to memorialize a loved one, current survivors and more.
Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in 1985, the Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Relays celebrate those who have survived cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change. Special laps are featured throughout the event. Funds raised help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund research to help protect future generations. ACS has invested more than $4.3 billion in research since 1946, and has funded more than 20,000 scientists at more than 1,000 institutions nationwide.
