Ann Kaplan was able to dial 911 while being assaulted, but was not able to communicate with the dispatcher, Calo said in a news release issued Monday night.
Police looked through a window and saw Ann Kaplan's body, Calo said. The home was locked so officers forced their way in and treated Ann Kaplan, he said.
Ann Kaplan was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson where she was subsequently pronounced dead, he said.
Eric Kaplan was also charged with third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted of the murder charge.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and Fair Lawn Police Department are investigating what happened.
