Girls Bowling Team Claims Another Championship Season
Cutters earn third league title in four seasons
The girls bowling team was predicted in a pre-season poll to be one of the better teams in Bergen County. The Cutters did not disappoint.
Fair Lawn earned the Big North Conference National Division title, the team's third league championship in four years. No easy task, considering the Cutters have been shuffled around three different leagues in as many seasons.
“We’ve played big schools, private schools, top programs, it’s been a little crazy,” said head coach Matt Markman. But, he added, "it was good experience because we were exposed to teams and players of all caliber.”

Four of Fair Lawn’s bowlers earned first-team all-league spots—seniors Denise Marain (high game 203) and Nicole Munczinski (201), junior Chelsea Lawlor and freshman Ellie Schuckman. Sophomore Jessicka Oviedo earned an honorable mention.
Rounding out the squad was senior Stephanie Shutt.

Markman said he was asked to name a Most Valuable Player to be presented during the high school’s sports awards dinner, which was held Thursday night.
“But I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t choose one over the others,” said Markman.
So the trophy, he said, simply read “Team.”
“This is the greatest bunch of girls,” Markman said. “They all deserve that trophy.”
