High School Fashion Show Supports Anti-Bullying Effort

Male and female students, as well as teachers, will take to the runway to demonstrate various styles of attire during the school's fourth annual fashion show, scheduled for Tuesday, April 3 in the D Cafeteria.

Proceeds from the show will support Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation, whose mission is, "to foster a more accepting society, where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated."

The decision to support Born This Way comes on the heels of the enactment of New Jersey's anti-bullying law this school year.

"This law is meant to be a powerful message to each and every child in New Jersey, and is an important step forward in putting an end to bullying," a statement from the FLHS Fashion Club reads. "Bullying is becoming a large, important issue that we must work toward stopping."

The high school fashion show will feature athletic wear, casual chic and trendy wear, and finish up with formal wear, setting the stage for the upcoming senior prom. 

“This fashion show will be entertaining, fun, and appealing to everyone in town,” club member Erica Rahman said in a statement. “We have incorporated different styles so the fashion featured in the show will appeal to everyone that attends this fundraiser.”

Fashion show models will wear clothing and accessories from various stores in the area including  and Golftini for athletic wear;  and Polo for the casual/trendy wear portion; and Men’s Wearhouse and Gattinolli Dresses for the formal attire.

Fair Lawn's will do hair and makeup for all of the models.

Other participating businesses are John’s Barber Cut and Shave, Studio 107, Sugar and Plumm, , and .

Nicole Mattina, a teacher at the high school and advisor to the fashion club said she was anxiously awaiting this year's event.

“Last year’s show was a huge success and we hope to make this year’s show even better," Mattina said in a statement. "This is a cause that a lot of us at Fair Lawn High School are excited to get behind as we work each day to teach our students in not only the academic areas but also in becoming kinder, more compassionate human beings.”
