readings. This month’s featured readers are: Susan Lembo Balik, Svea Barrett,
Laine Sutton Johnson. Music by Victoria Warne. An open reading follows. Free

About the Readers:
Susan Lembo Balik’s
poems have appeared in The Paterson
Literary Review, Lips, Paddlefish, Tiferet and other literary journals. Her
first book of poems will be published later this year by Garden Oak Press
(Rainbow, California). She has worked for the Poetry Center at Passaic County
Community College for nearly four years. Before that, she worked as a newspaper
feature writer, and she also wrote a parenting column focusing on health,
nutrition, and environmental and spiritual issues. She is an animal rights and
environmental activist. With her husband, she lives in Hawthorne, NJ, and is
mother to two teenagers, two dogs, and the newest member of the family, a
horse.

Svea Barrett is a 29-year proud veteran New
Jersey public high school teacher of writing. Her book I Tell Random People About You won the 2010 Spire Poetry Prize, and
she recently tied for first place in the 2013 Allen Ginsberg Poetry Contest.
Her poetry has appeared in The Paterson
Literary Review, Lips, The Journal of NJ Poets, US 1 Workshops and other
online and print journals. She lives in Fair Lawn, NJ, with her
husband, three sons, two dogs, and a cat.
Laine Sutton Johnson has had poetry published in The Paterson Literary Review, Lips, Edison
Literary Review, US 1 Worksheets, and others. She received two Editor's
Choice Awards in the Allen Ginsberg Contest. She is a retired high school Drama
/ English teacher. She received the 1998 Governor's
Award for Speech and Theatre Teacher of the Year. Three of her original short
plays have had readings in NJ: “Secrets”; “Brother of the Tree” (about Leonard
Peltier); and, selected last year and read at Villagers theatre, “In Another
Place” (about elder abuse). She lives in Hillsborough, NJ, with her poet
husband, Charles H. Johnson. They have three daughters and six grandchildren.

About the Musician:
Victoria Warne is a singer/songwriter and leader of the Victoria Warne Band. She
has played in many local venues and has toured internationally and recorded two
CDs as leader that blend blues, rock, and jazz elements. Her many past
collaborators have ranged from Spyro Gyra’s Julio Fernandez to jazz great Billy
Eckstine.
