Motor Vehicle Summons Issued In Death Of Fair Lawn Pedestrian

Police announced Monday that a motor vehicle summons has been issued for the man said to have hit a pedestrian with his car last week.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — A Fair Lawn man has been issued a motor vehicle summons related to the death of a pedestrian struck by a car while using a crosswalk last week, police said Monday.

According to Fair Lawn police, the driver of the vehicle, Johvanny Payero, 53, of Fair Lawn, was issued the summons for failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

This comes after the death of Yuri Berger, a Fair Lawn man who was struck and "thrown into" the roadway where he was trapped underneath another car on Fair Lawn Avenue between River Road and 11th Street.

Paramedics and Fair Lawn BLS attempted life saving measures on Berger, before transporting him to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
