New Jersey Clean Communities Council Recognizes Ron Lottermann with Enforcement Award

Lottermann receives Enforcement Award for development of Litter Marshal program

Ron Lottermann, Recycling and Clean Communities Coordinator for the Borough of Fair Lawn, has received the “Enforcement” Award from the New Jersey Clean Communities Council (NJCCC) for his development of the Litter Marshal program.

Lottermann began the Litter Marshal program in 2004, allowing residents to call a hotline and report a license plate, date, time, location and what was littered. The owner of the vehicle is then sent information to educate them about the effects of litter. A number of counties in New Jersey and New York have adopted the program.

“This year, I discussed the Litter Marshal program at the first ever Clean Communities Coordinator’s certification course. I presented the program and how to do enforcement to the first class, and I’ll be teaching again in August with the second class,” Lottermann said. “Our main objective is to catch those littering and educate them about the effects of litter. They are sent a warning letter and anti-litter information.”

“Ron has shown his commitment to educating others about various litter and solid waste laws, with tremendous dedication to his program,” said Sandy Huber, executive director of the New Jersey Clean Communities Council. “What he has done has to develop and grow the Litter Marshal program has helped areas all over New Jersey and New York. We thank Ron for all of his efforts and success with his program.”
