This coming Sunday, April 28, 2014 the Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church will welcome the Reverend Dr. Richard P. Camp Jr. to its pulpit. Dr. Camp will be preaching at the 11:00 a.m. service. Dr. Camp is no stranger to Van Riper Ellis since his father, the Reverend Dr. Richard Camp, was its pastor for 31 years.
Dr. Richard P. Camp Jr., served as Senior Chaplain at the U.S. Military Academy for over 20 years and is known for preaching inspiring, Bible-based messages, and has been honored by several colleges and seminaries with honorary doctorates.
Originally from Northern New Jersey, Chaplain Camp attended Fair Lawn Public Schools where he excelled in sports, especially football and track. He earned a B.A. degree from Wheaton (Illinois) College, and a Master of Divinity degree from Gordon Seminary near Boston, Massachusetts. After graduating from Gordon Seminary and being ordained into the ministry, Rev. Camp served as pastor of Baptist Churches in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He then became the Dean of Students at the Gordon-Cromwell Seminary.
Following this he was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to the Chaplaincy at West Point. Approximately 20 years later, Dr. Camp retired from the U.S. Military Academy and became Executive Director of a Christian Ministry to the National Parks, an interdenominational faith-based organization.
Pastor David Boone, senior pastor of the Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church, extends an invitation to everyone to come and join us as we welcome Dr. Camp back to New Jersey. Nursery care is available for infants and small children from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Sundays. More information can be obtained at www.VREBBC.org or by calling the church office at: (201) 791-8844.
