Students to Model Designer Labels, Raise Money for Children with Cancer at High School Fashion Show
The fundraiser starts at 7 p.m. Thursday night
The Fashion Club will present its 3rd annual charity Fashion Show on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the high school.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Project Ladybug Foundation at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, whose goal is to enrich the lives of children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. The charity was founded by former Real Housewives of New Jersey reality television star Dina Manzo, whose daughter, Lexi, is scheduled to be at the fashion show.
“This year’s show has something for everyone,” Fashion Club President Rebecca Mensch said in a statement. “It’s going to be a fun evening for the students who are modeling the latest designer fashions and for their friends and families who come out to see them and help us raise money for this great charity.”

Two dozen male and female students from the high school will model casual wear, sports wear, and formal attire. American Eagle Outfitters, an industry leader in on-trend clothing for 15 to 25-year-old girls and guys, was the first company to sign on as a sponsor and is providing the largest quantity of clothing. Their store at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus will outfit nearly two dozen male and female students with the latest casual wear styles.
“American Eagle is the classic style that every teen wears,” said Mensch. “Having them come on board first really helped us approach other designers and stores in the area.”

New York designer Betsey Johnson, who has been at the forefront of the fashion industry for the past 45 years, will also be donating clothing for the show. Known for her cutting edge silhouettes, hippie inspired flowing fabrics, whimsical detailing and fabulous fit, Betsey Johnson’s lacy, embroidered dresses are a big hit with prom-goers. Her award-winning clothes are sold at better department stores and specialty stores worldwide, including her own retail store at The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack, which is donating dresses for this show.
Additional clothing sponsors include David’s Bridal, Fox’s, Golftini, the Men’s Wearhouse, Polo, and The Running Company. Posh Hair Salon in Fair Lawn is donating their services to do the female models’ hair and makeup. The Party Box and Zerega Pasta have also made donations. Maruchy Designs will be selling jewelry at the show as part of the evening’s fundraiser. Food and beverages will also be available, including the latest dessert creations from high school senior and aspiring chef Cristina Vazquez.
“It’s wonderful to see our students working so many hours for such a worthy cause,” said Nicole Mattina, a teacher at the high school and the club’s advisor. “They have aggressively pursued area businesses to help out and the response has been so kind and very much appreciated.”
