VIDEO: Town Crier Teaches History

Town Crier Tim Yuskaitis spoke on Monday at Lyncrest School, where students are raising money for his costume

Tim Yuskaitis, Fair Lawn's , spoke about his unique role on Monday to inquisitive students—who listened intently in their tri-corner hats.

In a project that was the brainchild of fourth-grader Amanda Laudani, the Lyncrest student council organized "Bring in a President Week," during which students donated dollars or quarters for George Washington and pennies or five-dollar bills for Abraham Lincoln in order to raise money for the colonial costume of Yuskaitis—who is not paid by Fair Lawn for his crier duties. The student council presented Yuskaitis with $160 on Monday, to offset the cost of his crier bell.

Yuskaitis—who works as a New Jersey Transit police officer and is also a volunteer firefighter in Fair Lawn—became the 41st town crier in the U.S. and 6th in New Jersey when he . Watch Patch's video of his visit to Lyncrest School.
