Volleyball Senior Honored as Scholar-Athlete

Daniel Nugent, a senior star on the top-ranked boys volleyball team, was recently honored as one of 335 high school athletes who earned a total of $120,000 in college scholarships from the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Recognizing scholar-athletes like Nugent "epitomizes our organization’s core mission, which is to provide education-based interscholastic athletics which support academic achievement, good citizenship and fair and equitable opportunities for students," NJSIAA Executive Director Steve Timko said in a statement.

The scholar-athletes were honored on May 15 at Pines Manor in Edison, with more than 1,300 athletes, parents, coaches and school officials in attendance.
