Woman Killed In Elmwood Park Fire Tuesday Night, Reports Say

The victim has not yet been identified, authorities said.

One person died after a fire at an Elmwood Park home Tuesday night, police said in published reports.

The body, who authorities believe to a 25-year-old woman who remains "unaccounted for" as of Wednesday morning, ABC7 reported. The body was found on the home's second floor, according to the report.

Police Chief Michael Foligno said he expects the victim to be identified through an autopsy, which is scheduled for Wednesday, according to NorthJersey.com.

A representative with the Bergen County Prosecutor said that office's arson investigation unit responded to the scene and assisted with the initial investigation, but then turned the investigation over to Elmwood Park authorities.

Foligno did not immediately respond to an email and phone call seeking comment.

Foligno said that police officers tried to get inside the house, but thick smoke kept them back. Smoke was pouring out of the house, ABC7 reported.

Siding is burned off and windows broken, and everything on the inside of the house appears to be charred.

It appears the fire started on the house's second floor and quickly spread; the entire house at 59 Miller Ave. became engulfed in flames, NorthJersey.com reported.
