As two of New York’s most accomplished freelance violinists, Paul Woodiel and Hunterdon County native Robin Zeh are unabashed theater musicians who have collectively led the string sections in dozens of Broadway productions and perform regularly at the major New York venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Tony and Grammy Awards Orchestras. Their diverse musical interests overlap in the Andorinha Duo, where they explore the mysterious origins of early European musical compositions, as well as various folk traditions of dance and song. Of late, they have been absorbed by the luminous music of Scandinavia, particularly the Swedish partnership of fiddle and the magical 16-stringed nyckelharpa. This program includes iterations of some of the very earliest Medieval and Renaissance scores, including Diego Ortiz, John Dowland, Thomas Morley, as well as the eerie and enigmatic Robertsbridge Codex. Selections of traditional airs and joyful polskas from the Swedish dance repertoire round out the event.
