Three-Part Photography Workshop Series in June at Flemington DIY
FLEMINGTON, NJ — Flemington DIY, Hunterdon County's community arts organization, presents 'Faces and Spaces of Hunterdon County', a three-part photography workshop series led by photographer and educator Christianne Ebel. The series opens Saturday, June 6, and runs on consecutive Saturdays through June 20, with all sessions held at Flemington DIY, 26 Stangl Road, Flemington, from 10am to 1pm.
The workshops are open to all experience levels. All cameras are welcome, including smartphones, and no prior photography experience is required. Sliding scale fees ($85–$175), along with scholarship spots, ensure accessibility.
Each workshop focuses on a distinct photographic practice. The June 6 session, 'Faces: Tracking Presence and Perspective', explores portrait photography as a practice of relationship and awareness, working with both natural and studio light. The June 13 session, 'Spaces: Tracking Movement and Moment', focuses on street and documentary photography, including ethical approaches to photographing in public. The June 20 session, 'Land: Tracking Light and Place', takes participants into nearby outdoor locations to work with natural light, atmosphere, and landscape.
Participants from any of the workshops are invited to submit work for inclusion in The Faces and Spaces of Hunterdon County, a community photography exhibition opening in July at Flemington DIY. The exhibition aims to present a collective portrait of Hunterdon County and its surrounding areas as seen through the eyes of its own community members.
Ebel brings more than 30 years of photography and teaching experience to the series. She is the founder of the Glimmer Portrait Project, which provides free, trauma-informed portrait sessions to families living with serious childhood illness, and has developed photography programs for communities including disabled and at-risk youth. Her work has been exhibited internationally in both solo and group contexts. In October 2025, she curated *What is American?*, a juried exhibition exploring BIPOC identity and experience, at Flemington DIY. Her teaching approach emphasizes observational awareness and slowing down to notice detail in everyday environments, which she integrates into photographic practice.
"I believe photography is a practice of seeing," said Ebel. "These workshops are about helping people slow down, pay attention, and trust what they notice. The exhibition is a way of saying: your way of seeing this place matters."
Registration is open at https://www.flemingtondiy.org/faces-and-spaces-of-hunterdon-county/. Participants with questions about scholarship access may contact Christianne Ebel directly at ChristianneEbel@gmail.com.
