Construction of the Flemington Living Landmark Has Begun
Catalyst Experiential kicked off the revitalization with the demolition of two prominent eyesore structures at the Flemington Circle
November 11, 2020 (Flemington, NJ)—The first step in implementing a plan to celebrate and share Flemington’s unique appeal came Wednesday, as Catalyst Experiential undertook the demolition of a once-contaminated service station and abandoned house that, for decades, served as an unappealing gateway to the historic borough. Work has now begun on the Flemington Living Landmark, which Catalyst is constructing at no cost to taxpayers in coordination with the Borough of Flemington and the Flemington Community Partnership.
The Flemington Living Landmark will feature an expansive “living wall”: a vibrant, vertically-oriented garden of vegetation that dynamically transforms from season to season. The project will also integrate an abundance of colorful landscaping, a “solar tree” array providing renewable energy, and elegant metal lettering welcoming visitors to “The Historic Borough of Flemington”. Functionally, the project will integrate a communication platform consisting of three digital displays that the municipality will use to broadcast information and help promote local activities, events, and the downtown business district.
The evolution from buildings and parking lot to the Flemington Living Landmark includes the transformation of over 24,000 square feet of impervious surface into rich landscaping and grass, further improving the environment and aesthetics of the area. The landscaping and living wall will feature over 20,000 plants as well as 40 trees. The Living Landmark is scheduled to go live in Q1 of 2021.
