Hunterdon County Freeholder Director Calls On CVS and Rite Aid
To Offer COVID-19 Testing In County
Hunterdon County Freeholder Board Director Shaun C. Van Doren has requested that CVS and Rite Aid
Pharmacies offer COVID-19 testing in at least one of their pharmacies located in Hunterdon County, in order to
increase testing that health officials say protects the community and allows for a quicker reopening of
businesses and other day-to-day activities and events.
Freeholder Van Doren wrote in a letter to the CEO of both companies, “Testing is just as important to
Hunterdon County residents as it is to residents in other areas of New Jersey. CVS and Rite Aid pharmacies
have free test sites set up in some towns across the state, but none of those test site locations are convenient and
the closest pharmacy testing for COVID-19 is an hour from the county seat in Flemington.”
CVS has four pharmacies in the county and Rite Aid has two.
In Van Doren’s letter he points out Hunterdon County has joined with Somerset County to offer a COVID-19
testing site at Raritan Valley Community College. The site has tested over 1,000 residents so far, but support is
needed to expand this endeavor.
“The most important thing that can be done for our residents is to expand testing. Asking the CVS and Rite Aid
pharmacies already in the county to provide testing for COVID-19, as they already are doing in other counties
in the state, is a fair and reasonable request,” Van Doren concluded.
According to the New Jersey COVID-19 Hub, testing is a priority for health care workers and first responders,
but recommends that any resident with symptoms should get tested.
