Flemington Council To Consider $20,000 Grant For Public Health Planning

FLEMINGTON, NJ — A $20,000 grant could put public health at the center of a new planning effort in Flemington. The Borough Council is scheduled to consider the proposal Monday night at 7 p.m.

Resolution 2026-163 in the council’s agenda packet would authorize the mayor or a designee to accept a six-month grant from the American Planning Association New Jersey Chapter for its Plan4HealthNJ program.

The money would support the borough’s effort to bring public health and health equity into its land-use planning documents and decisions. The resolution points to housing, transportation, environmental conditions and access to healthy food among the factors that shape residents’ health.

Council members would also establish a Public Health and Planning Team, with appointments running through March 31, 2027. The proposed team includes borough officials and residents, along with representatives connected to health care, county government and community organizations.

The resolution says Flemington wants to “better understand health needs and conditions in the community.”

The American Planning Association New Jersey Chapter describes Plan4HealthNJ as an effort to connect public health with municipal planning. According to the borough resolution, the chapter received funding for the program from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Borough Hall, 38 Park Avenue. Residents may attend in person or online through Zoom and comment during the meeting.
