Local Scouts get Upclose and Personal with Reptiles

Annandale's Boy Scout Troop 200 Hosts Reptile & Amphibian Night

BSA Troop 200 invited local Cub Scouts and Webelos to join them for a recent meeting where they learned about reptiles and amphibians. Erin, an expert from Snakes n Scales explained that all of the animals the organization has are rescues, having been surrendered by owners who can’t care for them properly or rehabilitating injured animals before releasing them.

The Scouts got up close and personal with a number of animals including turtles, like Chompers the snapping turtle, a few different types of snakes and Blue, a blue-tongued skink from Australia. Erin explained that skinks can leave their tails behind if they feel threatened, but blue-tongued skinks can pop off theirs anytime.

Troop 200 is a high-adventure, boy-led troop. The Scouts meet on Monday evenings during the school year at Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale. For more information, follow BSA Troop 200 on Facebook, Troop 200 NJ on Instagram or reach out via Troop200NJ@gmail.com.
