Meet the Trades Event Nov. 13
HCVSD Hosts Event in Recognition of National Apprenticeship Week - Explore Careers, Network
Hunterdon County Vocational School District (HCVSD) will recognize National Apprenticeship Week by hosting a Meet the Trades event on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 1-3:30 p.m. Open to the community as well as HCVSD students, the event will provide an opportunity to hear from business leaders and apprentices in different industries.
“Our guests will offer insight into what it is like working in their respective trades and provide advice for taking meaningful steps toward career success,” said HCVSD Adult Education Coordinator Christina Shockley. “One of those first steps often is finding an apprenticeship, which enables workers to obtain the skills necessary for success while earning the wages they need to establish financial security.”
Shockley oversees apprenticeship training offered through the district in auto mechanics, culinary, electrical and plumbing.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the number of registered apprenticeships has grown by 56 percent since 2013. President Trump issued an Executive Order on Expanding Apprenticeship in America, calling for the continued increase of apprentices in the U.S. across all industries – a clear sign of the value placed on apprenticeships to contribute to a skilled workforce, especially in emerging industries.
National Apprenticeship Week runs Nov. 11-17 this year to give businesses, communities and educators opportunities to showcase apprenticeship programs and apprentices while providing valuable information to career seekers.
