Sports run deep in Flemington, and Hunterdon Central Regional High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Red Devils uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Hunterdon Central Regional High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.
Jason Cabinda – Penn State Standout To NFL Star
Jason Cabinda is a professional football fullback who most recently played for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League. During his time as a Red Devil, he led the team to a Central Group V championship, rushed 3,417 yards and scored 47 touchdowns. After a standout collegiate career at Penn State, where he was known for his versatility and leadership, Cabinda transitioned from linebacker to fullback at the professional level. Kimi Goetz – Olympic Speed Skater
Kimi Goetz, a 2012 graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School, is an elite speed skater who represented the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Specializing in long-track speed skating, Goetz has competed internationally and earned national titles throughout her career. Matt Ioannidis – NFL Defensive End
Matt Ioannidis is a retired professional football defensive end who played in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins / Football Team and the Carolina Panthers. After starring at Temple University, Ioannidis became a key rotational and starting lineman at the professional level, valued for his strength, consistency, and interior pass rush. Robyn Kenney – Field Hockey Standout
Robyn Kenney, Hunterdon Central class of 1997, is a former field hockey player who competed at a high level during her athletic career. Emily Mason – Gatorade Player Of The Year Turned NWSL Defender
Hunterdon Central graduate Emily Mason rose to national prominence as a multi-time New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year before building one of the most accomplished defensive careers in Rutgers women’s soccer history. At Rutgers, she anchored the back line, earned multiple All-Big Ten and All-America honors, and helped lead the Scarlet Knights to sustained defensive dominance. Mason has since transitioned to the professional ranks with Seattle Reign FC of the National Women’s Soccer League and has represented the United States at the youth national team level, including U20 World Cup competition and a gold medal at the Concacaf Women’s Championship—cementing her path from elite prep standout to top-tier professional.
