Troop 200 gets there, By Boot or By Boat

Perfect weather and a weekend of camping caps off a year full of adventure for local scouts

Boy Scout Troop 200 of Annandale recently set out on their annual By Boot or By Boat camping trip at Round Valley Reservoir in Clinton Township.

This year all of the 25 scouts and scouters opted to kayak or canoe the 2.5 miles to their campsites. The trip helped the scouts earn requirements towards their Camping and Kayaking Merit badges as well as mastering other outdoor skills like campfire building and outdoor cooking.

One of the highlights this year was that the boys had to kayak out to the troop’s pontoon boat to get hot dogs and sandwiches for lunch.

“This is one of our troop traditions that the scouts look forward to every year,” said assistant scoutmaster Rich Maslanka. “The boys spent all weekend on the water learning and mastering skills while having fun. It's always great to see the older boys mentor and encourage the newer scouts.”

Troop 200 is a high-adventure, boy-led troop for fifth-graders through high school. The troop offers camping and outdoor activities every month. The scouts meet on Monday evenings during the school year at Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale, NJ.
