100 MPH Car Chase Through PIP Ends With 5 Arrests: Police

One of the men fled into the woods near State Line Lookout and was later found, police said.

A pursuit by police Friday night where the vehicles exceeded 100 miles per hour through the Palisades Interstate Park ended with five people getting arrested, including one man who fled into the woods, authorities said.

The Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department received a 9-1-1- call regarding a hit-and-run crash on the parkway in Englewood Cliffs and another about New York City police officers pursuing the same vehicle allegedly involved in a shooting, police said.

Officer Timothy Conboy found the vehicle and tried to stop it, but it fled the area at speeds up to 110 miles per hour, police said.

The vehicle lost control near State Line Lookout and crashed; four people fled the scene and were immediately arrested, police said.

One of the men, Justin Cabrera, 24, of New York City, went into the woods and police could not find him, authorities said.

Police from several local departments set up a perimeter and looked for the man near the scene and in Alpine, police said.

At about 2 a.m. Saturday morning, one of the passengers contacted Nunez on his cell phone and Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Chief Michael Coppola negotiated with Cabrera, authorities said. Cabrera surrender to police at the KiKu Restaurant on Route 9 in Alpine, police said.

The driver, Miguel A. Nunez, 22, of Bronx, New York, was charged with eluding and resisting arrest; three others, Cabera, Anthony Javier, and Francisco J. Gonzalez, were charged with resisting arrest, police said.

Another occupant, Genesis Martinez, was charged with possession of marijuana, police said.
