Bergen Man Shot, Executed On Staten Island: Police

No arrests have been made in the killing.

A Bergen County man was one of two people found shot dead and executed on Staten Island Tuesday night, police said.

Michael Genovese, 57, of of Somerset Lane in Edgewater, was found dead inside a Staten Island business, New York City Police confirmed. A 52-year-old whose name was not released was also killed, New York City Police confirmed.

Police responded to Universal Merchant Funding at 124 Buel Ave. at 6:14 p.m. on a report of shots fired after a masked gunman walked into the storefront, went to the back of the building and killed the men. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Genovese was executed in a back office, sources said, police said.

The gunman ran out of the business and may have gotten into a dark-gray vehicle, police said.

Universal Merchant Funding provides loans and lines of credit to small- and medium-sized businesses, according to the business' website.

An investigation is ongoing.
