Bergen Woman Owes More Than $15,000 In Tolls And Fees, Police Say

FORT LEE, N.J. — A Wantage woman was arrested Monday morning for owed more than $15,000 in tolls and fees, police said.

Laura R. Tarrats, 42, was arrested after a Port Authority police officer saw her drive through an EZPass lane on the George Washington Bridge without an EZPass transponder, said Port Authority Spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

The toll indicator flashed, “toll unpaid” when Tarrats drove her green dump truck through the EZPass lane, Pentangelo said.

Police discovered that Tarrats’ EZPass account had been revoked in February with an outstanding balance of $15,800 in tolls and fees, police said.

Tarrats was charged with toll evasion, theft of service, and traffic violations, Pentangelo said. She is due in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack June 17.
