December 6, 2013 - a significant date

December 6 is now a significant date

Today is December 7, 2013 - seventy-two years ago world peace was shattered when the United States was attacked by Japan at Pearl Harbor.

"A date which shall live in infamy" must remain such, as President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared over the radio that terrible Sunday afternoon, December 7, 1941.

On December 6, 2013, the world - all of the now-very connected and inter-connected world - from the United States to Japan to South Africa -
a great man, a man who lived and suffered and triumphed to bring unity and peace and understanding to his people in South Africa - and became respected and honored throughout the world - died in his 95th year.

How ironic - or is there meaning in the progress of peace, concord and understanding  - despite many problems still plaguing the world - that rthe passing of Nelson Mandela, after 95 years and months of illness so severe that even President Barak Obama was denied the opportunity to visit with Mr. Mandela during a trip to South Africa earlier this year -that as December 7 must continue to be memorialized - December 6 can now be celebrated in the name of Peace and Understanding.
