Fort Lee Chiropractor Treats Musculoskeletal Issues for Decades

An interview with Dr. Andrew Mark Rodgers, a chiropractic physician with Fort Lee Chiropractic Associates.

is a multi-physician medical practice that specializes in chiropractic spinal and pelvic alignments. The business started on Lemoine Avenue, where it remained for 11 years, but for the past 27, the office has been located at 530 Main St. in Fort Lee.

Chiropractic is licensed in New Jersey to practice spinal manipulation that has been accepted by Medicare, Medicaid and most every other insurance for more than 50 years.

Dr. Andrew Mark Rodgers is a chiropractic physician with Fort Lee Chiropractic Associates. He said, "Chiropractic is not a religion; it is not a belief."

"Practicing spinal manipulation is like all other professionals, like osteopaths, medical doctors, psychiatrists and dentists," Rodgers said. "We are the licensed professionals. We are all medical physicians specializing in our own particular field."

After his mother experienced a terrible case of whiplash in the 1960s and then suffering throughout the 60s and 70s, Mrs. Rodgers went to Dr. Robert A. Marshall in Riverdale for chiropractic help. Marshall treated the Rodgers family for half a century, and it was from the benefit that his mother received from the treatment that Dr. Rodgers drew his inspiration and motivation, at 22, to become a chiropractic physician.

“Dr. D.D. Palmer developed the practice of chiropractics in 1895," Rodgers said. "Chiropractors are licensed in each state after having a pre-medical degree. Some with Master’s degrees, some with MD degrees and go further on to get a chiropractic degree.”

Rodgers, who started in Fort Lee, has been practicing for 38 years now and was honored as a Distinguished Alumni of the New York Chiropractic College for 2011.

He has also rendered over 100 medical legal opinions over the course of his career and has testified in malpractice, fraud and disability cases, both for the plaintiff and the defense.

“To have a large volume of clinical patients and getting excellent results in helping patients with their musculoskeletol issues is a dream come true,” Rodgers said.

The economy has not affected Dr. Rodgers’ practice; he said in fact that he's “busier than ever.”

Dr. Rodgers works with other medical physicians and surgeons in Northern New Jersey to help guide patients who are not candidates for medical manipulative care and participates in all managed care networks, which include health, workers compensation, personal injury and automobile accident cases.

“Every day has more than one battle to face,” Rodgers admits, adding that it's why he continues to get more degrees and certifications; he has four degrees now.

He said, "The only power you have is the power of education and degrees."

“Chiropractic continually excels," he said. "More and more people understand preventing chiropractic. It is like dentistry preventing cavities. Correcting pelvic misalignments prevents musculoskeletol symptoms.”

Past or recent falls or accidents cause spinal or pelvic misalignments that may "manifest suddenly or insidiously, or many, many years later," Rodgers added.

He handles the diversity of language and cultural shifts in the community by learning all that he can. Whether it be learning Spanish, Russian, Korean or other languages, his advice in becoming part of the change in the community as a business owner is to embrace the "wonderful, diverse culture of Fort Lee," he says.

His staff also speak Spanish and Korean. In fact, interpreters are available for most languages if need be.

Dr. Rodgers believes that trusting in and going to a chiropractor can be the answer for those seeking the truth about their musculoskeletol conditions.

Rodgers has been married for 19 years to a mid-western girl and has two daughters, ages 9 and 11. His daughters attend Dwight Englewood, where his wife is the president of the Parents Association.

Dr. Rodgers continually has to learn because he is a nationally certified expert witness. But he says he loves learning and enjoys the business end of things and strives to be the best.

A member of the American Chiropractic Association, Rodgers participates in health fairs throughout the community, including the annual Fort Lee Health Fair.

Also practicing with Dr. Rodgers are other chiropractics, acupuncturists, massage therapists, pain management specialists and neurologists.

Among those seeking relief from Rodgers are members of the , the , building inspectors and Port Authority personnel.

"There isn’t enough money to replace the smile on patients' faces after they feel better," Rodgers said.

It’s the constant, daily satisfaction of being medically able to make people feel better that keeps him going, he says, adding that like any business, the objective is to “please your customers.”
