Esteemed Conductor Anthony Morss to Step Down. Verismo Opera to Hold Auditions.

Lucine Amara, Artistic Director of the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera, announces renowned conductor Maestro Anthony Morss will step down at the end of the current season. Maestro Morss joined Verismo Opera and assumed the position of Principal Conductor and Music Director in 1995.

“Anthony Morss is a conductor of the highest caliber and a true gentleman. His constant dedication to Verismo Opera has been beyond reproach. Maestro has shared his wealth of knowledge with each and every artist, pianist and orchestra member he has come in contact with. His deep love of music and willingness to share this love has to us has been more precious than gold. We will all miss his tall slender figure on the podium,” said Lucine Amara.

Verismo Opera will hold auditions for the position Principal Conductor/Music Director on October 6, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 60 West 66th Street and Columbus Avenue in New York City. Applicants will check-in at the door and be provided with directions to the audition area. A selection committee comprised of Maestro Morss, Artistic Director Lucine Amara, Stage Director/General Manager Evelyn La Quaif and members of Verismo Opera’s board of trustees will review the applicants.

A complete description of the Principal Conductor/Music Director position may be found on the organization’s web site. Applicants must have previous experience working with a local opera company or orchestras and good pianist skills. An audition appointment must be set up by September 30.
