Emil Draitser : Shush! Growing up Jewish under Stalin: A Memoir

Emil Draitser has been publishing both fiction and nonfiction since 1965. Under his pen name "Emil Abramov," his work appeared in leading Russian journals (Youth, Literary Gazette and Crocodile). In 1974, blacklisted by the Soviet literary establishment for a satirical attack on one of its members, he immigrated to the U.S. where he continued his writing career.  He earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in Russian Literature from the UCLA and is currently Professor of Russian at Hunter College in NYC.  A three-time recipient of the New Jersey Council of the Arts Fellowship in Fiction and several other grants for both fiction and non-fiction writing, he also won a special prize for his short stories at the All-Union Literary Competition in Odessa.
